Redistricting

This project tracks the partisan consequences of mid-decade congressional redistricting. Each district is shaded by its average of the 2020 and 2024 results under the new maps, and states that adopted new maps are outlined to show whether the redraw favored Republicans or Democrats.

Present-day districts are colored by their average presidential margin across 2020 and 2024 (Biden and Harris vs. Trump), calculated on the current lines regardless of whether those lines existed in either election. The seat banner compares this projected post-redistricting balance against the actual 2024 House outcome.

How to read the map

• Shade intensity reflects margin size: light (0 to 5 points), medium (5 to 15), dark (15+).
• Blue shades are Democratic-leaning districts; red shades are Republican-leaning.
• Use the "Spotlight redistricted states" button to fade every non-redistricted state to grey, leaving only the redrawn states in color.
• Click any redrawn (colored) state to open its large map, a before/after toggle, and its timeline.
